Spring Double-aught Postcard!!!!!
Welcome to the 2000’s!!
Though we must begin back in the late 1900’s with our celebration of Christmas ‘99… It was pretty quiet at our place this year - just us and Grams. Still… It was a great Christmas for the kids and we had all the traditional stuff around. Charlie and Cyndi came by to help decorate our gingerbread house, we had a nice tree, we left carrots out for the reindeer…

To welcome 2000, we all participated in Boston’s First Night celebration. The boys checked out the displays, made celebratory hats, gathered horns and confetti, and marched in the Grand Procession (behind the blown up dinosaurs!) from the Expo Center to the Boston Common where they welcomed the New Year at 7:00 PM (together with London) under a shower of fireworks. They really enjoyed being part of the parade and partying with all the people celebrating the New Year!

After putting the boys to bed, Shawn and John took off with Charlie and Cyndi for a fancy dinner at the Pillar House and an eagerly anticipated but anticlimactic Armageddon. No black outs. No looting. Nuthin.
Winter visited us for but a few weeks in New England… It was cold and all, but not much snow this year. We did have snow long enough to build a great snow castle…

Shawn made a business trip to Europe shortly after the New Year. She visited London, Paris, Nurremburg…

Upon her return, it was John’s turn for a bit of time away… So he took off for a weekend of skiing at Gunstock in New Hampshire with Shawn’s girlfriends… And yes, they are STILL Shawn’s girlfriends!

John and Shawn both abandoned the kids for a couple of days in March. We had a fantastic getaway at the newly renovated Mt. Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods - the very hotel that reportedly inspired Stephen King to write The Shining. It’s quite a place! In addition to living large and eating big… We had one day of unseasonably warm skiing with spring conditions at Bretton Woods and the next day a return to winter at Cannon Mountain…

We managed our first hike of the year on Mt. Watatic in April. The biggest hike yet for the boys, they performed impressively! Busy trails but great three-state views from the summit!

Joshua celebrated his fifth birthday at his “Space Party” with the help of his date, Emmy. We hunted space rocks, played musical meteors, ate shuttle cake, and busted the alien piñata. You haven’t lived until you’ve had 15 five year-olds at your house!

We finished our winter with the Grandfather Tour in Florida. We spent several days with John’s dad, Ralph, in Sarasota and a few nights with Shawn’s dad and step mom, Lee and Susan, in Tampa. Along the way we squeezed in an Easter dinner with both families present, a day on the beach, a day at Disney World and a whole lot of fun for the boys…

John started a new job on May 15 with Nortel Networks in Billerica. He’s excited about being back in the telecommunications world and working with a larger company and about Nortel’s future! What do YOU want the Internet to be?
We’re all happy and healthy and looking forward to a really great summer! We hope you and yours have a great one too and, if you get up our way, you best stop in - we’re painting a house for you!
